NO GOALS AT HAWKER ENCLOSED

Tuggeranong United's Under 16 Premier League team managed another impressive result this weekend, drawing 0-0 with Capital Football Academy. It was the team's 4th draw in its last 5 matches, but it did better their previous result against the Academy which was a 1-3 loss.

It was a game of two halves as the Academy side dominated possession and territory in the first half, a trend which was then reversed in the second. Hardly any good chances came to either side in the first 45 minutes as well, but the game opened up a lot more after the half time break.

Alex Weber and Ani Ekanem both got themselves into good scoring positions on more than one occasion, but like their opponents they failed to finish. For Tuggeranong it was Callum Hogan's safe hands and courage in one-on-one situations that kept the away side's clean sheet, as well as assured performances from Alec Pittard and Sam Turner in the centre of defence. Andrew Lawrence and Michael Barrington also fought hard in midfield.

Overall some high quality football was on show, thanks in part to a good pitch and attacking intentions from both sides. The result leaves Tuggeranong set to earn the same number of points it did in the first half of the season, with games against second from bottom Majura Canberra City and 10th placed Belwest O'Connor remaining.

Coach Eugene Lawrenz was not totally satisfied with the result however: "We could've won the game, and probably deserved to, but that's been the story of our season and you make your own luck. It's a pity because the games that should've gone our way but didn't were the difference between us being a mid-table side and challenging for the title. Even today, 3 points instead of 1 could've meant the difference between say 5th and 6th. For now though, we just have to make sure we concentrate properly in our last two matches."

Lawrenz was a lot more positive when asked about the side's overall achievements this season though: "The players learnt a lot, they have improved a great deal, and hopefully next year they will know how to rectify the mistakes they made this time around to ensure they fulfill their potential and challenge the top teams. These players have that in them."
