TUGGERANONG DRAW TOUGH ASSIGNMENT
Tuggeranong United Football Club have been handed a tough assignment for the 2007 Federation Cup which was drawn by Capital Football today.
United, who haven't won the competition since 1994, have been grouped alongside last season's Grand Final nemesis Queanbeyan City, old rivals Canberra City and the 2006 ACT Premier League Champions Cooma. It looks a tough draw on paper for Scott Conlon's charges.
"Indeed it seems we have been given a rough time of it with the draw with our Group certainly being the most competitive," Conlon said upon hearing the news. "However, as with any match that we face we will prepare well and set out our tactics for each stage and see where we go from there."
Tuggeranong's first match of the competition sees a trip to the Riverside Stadium on Sunday 11th March, with a 2pm kick off. It was at the Riverside that United laid down their 2006 ACT State League One title credentials claiming a stoppage time goal in a 1-0 victory last year. Following that opener United host Canberra City at Greenway on Wednesday 21st March, kick off at 8pm and complete the group stages with a trip to McKellar Stadium to face Cooma on Sunday 25th March, kick off at 3pm.
Meanwhile, Tuggeranong have announced fixtures for their Premier Pathway League and Premier League under-18 teams against Canberra City on Saturday 17th March with both matches taking place at Kambah 2, with kick offs of 12 noon and 10am respectively.

7. TUFC Defeat Woden Valley
6th March 2007
UNITED DEFEAT WODEN VALLEY
First half goals from Mark Shields and Luke Fattore were enough for Tuggeranong United to notch up a 2-1 win over fellow ACT Premier League newcomers Woden Valley in a competitive pre-season friendly at Kambah on Saturday.
Hot on the heels of a 1-1 draw at Belconnen United in their first run out of the new season Tuggeranong were quickly into their stride and were comfortably ahead 2-0 inside the first twenty minutes. A lapse in concentration allowed Woden Valley a swift response but United were rarely in danger thereafter and easily held on to claim the win.
Indeed, but from some profligate finishing from the Tuggeranong attackers the score line would have been much higher in favour of the home team as several presentable chances went begging.
Scott Conlon, United's head coach was reasonably happy with the result, if not the performance. "The second half was a little lackadaisical from our point of view," he said afterwards. "We had lots of opportunities to put the game to bed and will need to be more ruthless in front of goal when the real action kicks off. In saying that though there were some excellent passages of play and we looked fairly fit and strong for sustained periods of the game."
Elsewhere there was disappointment for the club's feeder teams. The Premier Pathway League side, under the tutelage of Steve Emmott slumped to a 0-5 home reverse to Woden Valley, whilst Gordon MacDonald's under-18 Premier League side, despite a much improved showing from last week's encounter with Belconnen, were beaten 0-2 by their Woden Valley opposites.
